NuBeing Apparel was founded on September 1st 2016, during a very critical time. The political climate was changing, civil unrest was on the rise, and there was a cognitive dissonance nationwide about why people of color were so angry and fed up over social inequality, social injustice and even resorting to say, “Black Lives Matter.” Thus the division reared its ugly head once again because some were choosing to turn a blind eye to the systematic racism in America. It was bittersweet because people were starting to "wake up" during a time when major corporations were speaking out against the protests. Essentially, these corporations showed their support for the systematic oppression, which has lined their pockets since its conception. Therefore, the birth of the "buy black" movement called to people of color to buy from black- and brown-owned businesses and companies who had the interest of freedom and equality for all people, nationality, creed, and gender.
Here at NuBeing Apparel, our efforts are to represent the interest of a downtrodden and misrepresented/disenfranchised people who are excluded in mainstream media, organized institutions, federal & local government, and education. The message is clear: The large corporations behind mainstream media, music and fashion do not have regular free-thinking people in mind when it comes to interest in culture, education and arts. But we do. This is what motivates us at NuBeing Apparel - to create designs that inspire rebellion against the mainstream’s continuous efforts to lull us to sleep with their repetitious humdrum of fear and propaganda. We create designs for the brave, the free-thinking and the innovative and yes…that means you too!
NuBeing Apparel's purpose is to honor and celebrate history’s unsung heroes with the same creativity that manifested in old Negro spirituals, blues, jazz, r&b, rock n'roll, and in hip hop. We strive to be the voice of David Walker, Marcus Garvey, Nobel Drew Ali, Wallace D. Fard, Elijah Muhammad, Malcom X, Stokely Carmichael, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Fred Hampton, Huey P. Newton, Anglela Davis, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, just to name a few. All of these voices have sparked revolutions that have stimulated the minds, and philosophies of people all over the world. These voices have ingrained a sense of self-awareness and pride in who we are and how we came to be. Hence, the name of our company, Nu Being. Once you have elevated your mind, body, and soul, you have become reborn and renewed with a fervor to pursue that purpose for the greater good. Let our creative voice be yours, and vice-versa, because we want to express a unified voice where our voices are not heard or are simply ignored. If you feel like you do not have a voice, then maybe you can find one with ours because it is paramount that we continue to express, educate and evolve into NuBeings.
